The Port Safety Working Group

The Port Safety Working Group includes traffic, safety, and security managers from member ports and meets 3–4 times annually.

Focus areas:

National maritime notification systems (Portnet until 2025, then NEMO)
Cybersecurity, digitalisation, and automation in practical port operations
Coordination of port and vessel traffic, including interfaces with VTS, pilotage, and land transport
Security protocols: access control, ID checks, and area monitoring
Emergency plans, hazardous materials handling, and energy transition fuels
Occupational safety and best practices for shared workplaces
Traffic flow and safety improvements in port areas
Updating model port regulations
