The Maritime Cluster Has Launched a Collaboration to Develop Continuing Education

Finland is an island nation and depends on the continuity, safety, and efficiency of year-round maritime transport. The Finnish maritime cluster operates in close cooperation across sectors, as each part plays a role in the continuous development of the cluster’s operational conditions. In a small country, this also highlights the importance of the diverse skills of those working within or newly entering the maritime cluster, as well as the opportunities for professional mobility enabled by broad expertise.

Aboa Mare in Turku has taken on the task of filling a gap in continuing education within the maritime cluster sectors.

The first continuing education courses organised by Aboa Mare this year:

  • Basic Course in Marine Engineering – to be held on 26–27 March 2025
  • The traditional Basics of Port Operations course – to be relaunched in an updated format in autumn 2025

The partner organisations for this effort are: the Finnish Shipowners’ Association, Shipbrokers Finland, the Finnish Port Operators Association, The Finnish Ports Association, and the Finnish Marine Industries. These industry associations began anticipatory cooperation at the start of 2025, with a particular focus on identifying and assessing shared needs for continuing education across sectoral boundaries.
